Carbon Steel Wire Springs

The majority of springs we make at Davies Springs are from carbon Steel Wire – this is also sometimes referred to as piano wire or music wire – because of its association with musical instruments such as the piano.

These days Carbon Steel Wire is made to a British Standard. For spring wire, standards such as BS EN10270-1, BS5216, and DIN 17223 are common. ASTM

The more carbon steel has the stronger it is which makes them very suitable for springs. If your springs are not going to be used in a dry situation chances are carbon steel will give you the best result. However, if in any doubt please get in touch and explain the nature of what you require, and we can advise. In such situations customers often order several batches to test what will work.

Carbon steel springs are supplied with an oil finish unless otherwise requested.

Other options include:

  • Zinc plated
  • Passivation

If this is looking "complicated" please do not hesitate to give Davies Springs a call 01527 500710, out of office hours please use our contact form and we will call you back when the office is open. Springs are our main product we make, small to large and everything in between. Most people will find either our Carbon Steel (sometimes called Piano Wire or Music Wire) a great choice, but if moisture might be an issue then a stainless steel or 316 stainless steel spring will be a better solution.

If you are looking for even more extreme performance please ask as we can use other metal wires to make the springs.
